Kathleen ""Kelly"" Joyce Lindgren

Kathleen (Kelly) Joyce Lindgren, 58, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2011, at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg.     A resident of Madison since 1990, Kelly was born in Green Bay, and has lived in Fond du Lac, Gainesville (FL), New York (NY).    She graduated with a B.S. in Nursing from UW-Madison (1975), received a M.S. degree as a Perinatal Clinic Specialist at Columbia University (1981), and earned her Ph.D. in Nursing at UW-Milwaukee (1997).   Kelly was declared a Certified Nurse Midwife by the American Midwifery Certification Board (1999) and became a Women's Health Care Practitioner (2000).     Kelly was a member of the Beta Eta and Eta Nu chapters of Sigma Theta Tau, the national nursing honor society, and the Phi Kappa Phi honor society.   In 2003, she received the Student Nurses Association Outstanding Course Professor Award, at UW-Madison.   The same year she was recognized for her work with pregnant women at the Madison Community Health Center with the Madison Department of Public Health and the Dane County Division of Public Health Volunteer Award.   A Certified Nurse Midwife at the UW Midwifery Service (Madison), Kelly was also an Assistant Professor at the UW-Madison School of Nursing and an Instructor of nursing at Edgewood College and Columbia University (New York, NY).  Her previous positions included working as a Staff Nurse at Meriter-Park Hospital ( Madison, WI), Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center ( New York, NY), New York University Medical Center ( New York, NY), and the University of Florida ( Gainesville, FL).   She was a Senior Clinical Manager at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center ( New York, NY).   Kelly was dedicated to her family and her career.  She led a professional life committed to providing women and newborns with compassionate medical care of the highest quality.  Kelly was a natural student with a demanding intellectual curiosity, and an avid reader.  She enjoyed family camping in Wisconsin parks, and loved her dogs, Monet and Manny.  An active member of Bible Study Fellowship International, Kelly was passionate about the study of scripture and attended Blackhawk Community Church.   Kelly is survived by her son, Eric Benton, of Madison; one brother, Clark (Chris) Lindgren of Marshalltown, IA; four sisters, Lora (Ken) Moak of DePere; Lois (Michael) Clochesy of Neenah; Marlys (Jonathan) Dunston of Sussex, and Merri Lindgren (Barry Hartup) of Baraboo; a sister-in-law, Alice (Michael) Chico of Syracuse, NY; and many nieces and nephews.  Kelly was preceded in death by her husband, Jeremy Benton (2007), her son, Timothy Benton (2005), and her parents, Allen and Jean Lindgren.   The family would like to thank Dr. Ian Robins and Dr. Steve Howard, UW Hospital and Clinics, Madison, and Kelly's many friends and colleagues for their support and care.    A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 11, at 6:00 p.m. at Blackhawk Community Church, with visitation from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service.   Memorials may be made to Doctors Without Borders or Instant Sisters of the American Cancer Society, an advanced and metastatic breast cancer support group.
