Kathleen Mayland

Kathleen Mayland passed away on July 24, 2024 at the age of 95. Born in Racine, Wisconsin, she married Arthur Mayland in 1948 and then moved to Madison.

Music brought her and Art together when they met while playing in a dance band. Her life revolved around her family and home. She cared for and strongly advocated for her oldest daughter, Christine, who was developmentally disabled. She was active in the lives of her other two daughters, Nancy and Diane, transporting them to music lessons and other activities. She was a founding member of the WYSO Parents Group, planning many picnics and receptions for the young musicians. She rarely missed a concert where her husband, daughters, or grandchildren were performing.

Kathleen is survived by her husband, Arthur, daughters Nancy Mackenzie (Mark) and Diane Mayland (Michael Hennessy), 3 grandchildren, Mary Mackenzie (Barry Fradkin), Margaret Mackenzie and Austin Stephenson (Autumn Gear) and one great granddaughter, Averie Stephenson.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras in her memory.
