Kathryn “Kappy” (Ek) Bredemus of Wauankee, WI earned her guardian angel wings at the wise age of 90 years young on May 9, 2024. The woman known for her story telling, was born in the quaint town of Shell Lake in northern Wisconsin to Walter and Anastasia Ek. She spent her youth with her younger siblings and life long friends swimming and skiing behind the back of her father’s Shell Lake boats. She was proud to be one of the first to ski on the lake and often put on ski shows for the people at the beach.
Kappy graduated Shell Lake High School and moved to Milwaukee to attend Marquette University where her famous story of being hit by the bull on Michigan Ave. was created. She shortly left to Lake Superior to graduate with a Masters in Teaching and a minor in History. Her career of teaching started in California, traveling to Minnesota, back to northern Wisconsin where she met the love of her life, Bob. They then moved from Ladysmith WI to Madison WI where she retired her passion. The love of teaching and educating extended to her children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren.
Besides teaching she loved traveling and shopping where she traveled. Traveling created most of her conversation starters, especially the clerk at Chico’s. Kappy and Bob’s love of traveling created found memories around the world with family and friends. Out of all places traveled, their favorite place was always Shell Lake.
Kappy is survived by her sister Mary Jacobs, son Tim (Ellen), her grandchildren Robert (Danielle), Erin and her 3 great grandchildren Cayden, Connor and Cillian. She is proceeded in death by her parents Walter and Anastasia Ek, her brother Bill Ek, and her great grandson Bentley. She was a beautiful woman who’s wisest words were, “.”
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Deforest Wisconsin. Visitation will be at 10 AM, Mass following at 11 AM with a light lunch in after.
In lieu of flowers, Kathryn would like all donations be made to the Wauanakee School District where her grandchildren attend.
