Kathryn George

Verona-Kathryn A. "Katie" George, age 45, passed away after a valiant battle with breast cancer on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the UW Hospital-Madison. She was born on May 29, 1967 in Madison the daughter of George & Mary (Hanson) Crownhart. Katie was united in marriage with Kevin George on March 17, 2001. Katie grew up in Madison and went to Memorial High School. She received her BA in Education from Edgewood College and recently accomplished her goal of getting her Master's Degree in Education. She was the beloved 1st and 2nd grade teacher for many students at Van Hise and Midvale Elementary School. Katie loved life and didn't let cancer slow her down. Katie especially enjoyed helping raise her step children. She spent many hours of enjoyment watching Jordan chase his hockey dreams. She was proud of inspiring Kirstin to follow her into the teaching profession. Katie will always be remembered for her infectious smile, kind words and her ability to always take care of everyone around her. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband, Kevin, Verona; stepchildren, Kristin George, Dubuque, IA and Jordan George, Bemidji, MN; father, George Crownhart, Madison; sister, Betsy (Jim) Wolfe, Sun Prairie; brothers, Charlie (Jenny) Crownhart, Flagstaff, AZ and Eric (Debbie) Crownhart, O'Fallon, IL; sister-in-law, Roxane (Charlie) Sisler; nieces and nephews, Nick Boucher, Kayla Boucher, Justin Crownhart, Cody Crownhart, Nick (Kari) Sisler, Brandon Sisler, Amanda Sisler, Tessa Wolfe, Jake Wolfe and Matt Crownhart; beloved canine companion, Riley; other relatives and friends. Katie was preceded in death by her mother, Mary, her aunts, Karen Clayton and Sherry Vaughan and uncle, Jim Hanson. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at the Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, WI. A visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.
