Kathylene (Corcoran) Heimerl passed away quietly Wednesday February 1, 2012 at Agrace Hospice Center in Fitchburg after a long illness. She died surrounded by family, much love and many tears. Katie was a loving, generous and gracious soul, so this was a bittersweet passing, in that we selfishly cling to those that we love; but she was at peace with God and the fact that her time was upon her. Katie gave us all a great gift the past several weeks, taking time with each of us one on one to say our goodbyes. Katie had been ill for some time but was most recently under compassionate, merciful treatment at Agrace HospiceCare. The team of professionals, volunteers and clergy at Agrace HospiceCare are an amazing group of souls that Katie said "are truly angels."
Kathylene Corcoran was born on May 7th in 1935, the daughter of George Patrick Corcoran and Hazel (Byrne) Corcoran. Born and raised in Madison she met and married the love of her life Frank (Sam) Heimerl shortly after graduating from Edgewood High School. Sam and Katie were married for 54 years, separated only by Sam's death in 2009. They were kindred spirits that shared a love of life and family.
Katie was a busy mother of six children focusing her attention on family for years leading her to take her love of life and compassion to serve others by obtaining a degree in nursing. Katie worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Badger Prairie Health Care Center in Verona and for nearly 20 years she proudly cared for her patients with tireless love and compassion.
Katie is preceded in death by her husband Frank (Sam) Heimerl, daughter Theresa Marie Heimerl and several siblings: Robert James Corcoran, Mary Jane (Corcoran) Dushan & Georgia Ann (Corcoran) Lunde and her sister in law Virginia Heimerl. She has two surviving sisters, Virginia (Corcoran) Stephenson and Peggy (Jerry) Stefan and her best friend of nearly 50 years Rosie Landgraf, who Katie considered a sister.
Katie is also immediately survived by 6 children: Chris (Wendy) Heimerl, Tim (Faye) Heimerl, Peggy (John) Kho, Kathy (Scott) Varese, Steven (Nettie) Heimerl and Doug (Tara) Heimerl and 17 grand children: Zakary (Liz), Marlon, Emaleah, Heidi (Chris), Jeremy, Ben, Anna, Gretchen, David, Cody, Sean, Dane, Leilani, Jack, Henry, Sam, Sophia and 3 great grandchildren: Ethan, Sarah and Lily. She loved them all dearly.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday February 7, 2012 at BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2115 Rowley Ave in Madison, at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. with Father Patrick Norris, O.P. officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Katie's name may be made to: Agrace HospiceCare 5395 East Cheryl Parkway Fitchburg, WI 53711-5395 or Blessed Sacrament Grade School 2112 Hollister Avenue, Madison, WI 53726.
