Kenneth R. Byce, age 89, of Madison, WI, passed away peacefully on Thursday August 26, 2021. He was born on August 22, 1932 in Two Harbors, MN to Edith and Robert Byce.
He spent his childhood in Two Harbors and attended Two Harbors High School. Ken played on the football, basketball, and baseball teams. He went to University of Minnesota-Duluth for 2 years and then joined the Military. He served as a Corpsman in the 1st Marine Division in the Korean War. He then returned home and attended medical school at the University of Minnesota. He spent his career as a physician of Obstetrics-Gynecology and delivered nearly 6,000 babies over 4 decades.
Ken, also known fondly as “Kenny or Ken-Dog” was incredibly proud of his family. His children, grandchildren, and great grands, were his pride and joy. He was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed UW Badger sports. He was an enthusiastic supporter and contributor to both the baseball and hockey communities. Kenny was well known around the area hockey rinks and baseball diamonds. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play the sports they loved.
Kenny loved people and took interest in everyone he met. He enjoyed spending time golfing, working on his gardens and yard, walking, ice cream, and was an avid reader. Kenny was a member of Midvale Lutheran Church and his strong faith was the compass for his life.
Ken is survived by his life partner, Jackie Bradley, children; Brad Byce (Meghan Conger), Suzi Liszewski (Pete), John Byce. Grandchildren, Sarah Schlough (Jason), Johnny Byce (Nakita Raghunath), Katie Liszewski, Jessica Liszewski, Ty Pelton-Byce, and Kaya Pelton-Byce. Great grandchildren; Sadie, Lily, and John Schlough, former spouse Jan Byce. He also was blessed with a “bonus family”, children; Elizabeth Wiebe (Mark), Rob Bradley (Nicole) and grandchildren; Ryan, Molly and Michael Wiebe, Drew and Harper Bradley, and Tatum Rosheisen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Robert Byce, and sister Marge Frolek.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Midvale Community Lutheran Church, 4329 Tokay Blvd., Madison, with Rev. Katie Baardseth officiating. Military Honors will follow. Friends may greet the family from 12 noon until the time of services at church on Saturday.
