MADISON -- Kenneth William Hafner, age 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg, WI after experiencing a head injury as the result of a fall on July 6, 2010. Born October 28, 1930, in Lacrosse, WI, Kenneth was the fourth child of William J. Hafner and RMinta Hafner (Rapp). Kenneth graduated from high School in LaCrosse, WI, received his Bachelor's Degree from UW-Madison and his Master's Degree from UW-Whitewater. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy on the USS F. B. Parks DD884. On April 24, 1954, he married Melva Ann Hafner (Jerdee) of Tomah, WI. They were married for 56 years. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Atty Dyann Lynn Hafner, J.D. (Thomas Addison) of Sun Prairie, and Dr. Dedra Jill Hafner, Ed.D (Art Zimmerman) of Madison, and son David Lee Hafner (Kathy) of Poynette, as well as three grandchildren, Brendan D. Hafner, Nathan M. Addison, Lauren N. Hafner and a brother Carleton E. Hafner. Ken worked in school administration as a Business Manager in Kenosha and Sun Prairie, WI and owned the A&W Restaurant and Prairie Schooner/White Glove Catering in Sun Prairie with his wife before retirement. Kenneth volunteered his time to the Elks Club, Kiwanis, and the Sun Prairie Band Boosters. Kenneth and Melva resided in Cherokee Gardens in Madison where he enjoyed taking photos of the landscape. He loved his family, cared deeply about the world around him, and was a passionate amateur photographer.

Funeral services will be held on August 9, 2010, at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Ter., Sun Prairie. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with services at 11:100 a.m. Burial services with military rites will be conducted at Sun Prairie Memory Garden, followed by a luncheon for guests.

With deep appreciation, the family thanks the staff of St. Mary's Hospital and the HospiceCare Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials to HospiceCare in Fitchburg would be appreciated.
