Kenneth D Hanson

Madison - Kenneth D. “Ken” Hanson, age 79, passed away the morning of June 22, 2023. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Nicole. He will be deeply missed by his two children and spouses, Kristina (Dustin) Williston, Douglas (Kelly) Hanson and two grandchildren, Jay Hanson and Arianna Hanson Miller and two great grandchildren, Serena  Moss and Killian Miller. Ken leaves behind his brother, Curt (Linda) Hanson, several nieces, nephews, cousins as well as countless friends.

After graduating high school in 1961, Ken entered the Army National Guard and was called to active duty for the Berlin Crisis. On October 17, 1964, Ken married Irene Prochaska. Ken raised two children with Irene while working for the Dane County Hwy Department. During his 34 year career with the county, he was actively involved in the union, serving in many roles including President of Local # 65 AFSCME. He also served two terms at the state level of Council 40 Executive Board.

In January of 2000 Ken retired and on March 17th of that same year he lost his wife Irene after a long battle with cancer. Ken kept busy in his retirement years by continuing to volunteer with many organizations. He was active in the Red Arrow 32nd Division Veterans Association, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and St. James Catholic Church. One of his proudest moments was serving as an escort for a WWII veteran on the first Honor Flight out of Madison, WI.

In one of Ken’s winter trips to Arizona, he was blessed to find love again. On September 29, 2012 Ken married the girl next door, Nicole Jean Lane.  The two spent their years together making each other smile and laugh. Forever and Always.

A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday June 29, 2023, at Cress Funeral Service, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Service at Cress. Ken will be laid to rest at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
