Kim Koster

Kim Koster, 62, died October 27, 2017 at her home in Sun Prairie, WI surrounded by loved ones.

She was born on May 25, 1955 in Brookings, SD to Stan and Darleen Orcutt. She graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1973, Madison General School of Nursing in 1977, and the UW Madison School of Nursing in 1988 with a Bachelor's in Science, Nursing. She enjoyed a variety of nursing positions throughout her career including intensive care at Madison General (now Meriter), Patient Education coordinator at Meriter, Director of Nursing at Waunakee Manor, IT system analyst at UW-Madison, and a staff nurse at Dean Clinic.

She had many interests and hobbies. She taught ballet for Mary Vandas School of Dance as a high school student and later for adult rec programs in Madison. Kim obtained a blue stripe belt in Karate through Karate America, and was a Madison Packer Backer. She was an avid volunteer and helped at events at the Henry Vilas Zoo, Olbrich Gardens, the American Red Cross, the American Cancer society, and the Arthritis Association. She was a past member of the Madison Central Lions club and then joined the Sun Prairie Lions club. Gardening was her favorite hobby. She designed and created three beautiful ponds and gardens at her homes, and enjoyed sitting in the sun weeding or digging all day long.
Although she had great travel adventures and volunteering was very important to Kim, her greatest joy in life was being a mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her father Stan. She is survived by her daughter Andrea Koster, and grandson Alex Ludwig, her mother Darleen Orcutt, brothers Doug (Zoa) Orcutt, Mike (Karen) Orcutt, her nieces and nephews, Emily (Robert) Holmes, Sadie Orcutt, Kurt Orcutt, Benji (Holly) Orcutt, and Kevin (Jennifer) Orcutt. She leaves behind love with her close friends Gina Leahy, Diane Flood, Ann Averill, Dawn Wild, Toni Rose, Marybeth Pagura, Suzy Piorier, and her cousin JoAnny Bannanie.

There will be an open house for friends and family to come together to share memories, laughs, tears, snacks, and beverages at Cress Funeral Home in Sun Prairie. The open house will take place on Sunday, November 12th from 1pm - 5pm with a small service at 2pm. Come eat, drink, and be merry-sad with us! As mom and I would say, "Don't worry, we know what we're doing!"
