Odland, Lila Jean 'L. Jean'
Stoughton- L. Jean Odland, age 87, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Stoughton Hospital. She was born in Stoughton on May 3, 1924, a daughter of Alfred and Leah (Greenwood)Thompson. L. Jean grew up on Main Street in Stoughton above the family's store and attended Stoughton High School, graduating in 1942. On April 23, 1945, she was united in marriage to Owen Odland. In addition to being a homemaker, L. Jean worked from 1965 to 1980 at JC Penney on the square in Madison. She was involved in the Women of the Church at Lake Edge Lutheran Church in Monona for many years. She and Owen made their home in Monona from 1953 to 1996, when they retired to Stoughton. She enjoyed many camping adventures and annual trips with friends. She also enjoyed bowling in couples league on Sunday nights in Stoughton for many years, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter, Jean Relph of Middleton, a son, James Odland of Clintonville; a sister, Myrnell Halverson of Stoughton; 3 grandchildren, Matthew (Michelle) Odland of Wausau and their children Nathan, Nyssa and Annika; Adam (Shannon) Odland of Eau Claire and their son Ben; and Amy (Michael) Minter of Waunakee and their son Owen and another son on the way; and by many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Owen; a sister, Karen Thompson; brother and sister-in-law, Art and Audrey Thompson, brother-in-law, Halver Halverson, brother-in-law, Loy Odland; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roger and Alice Odland.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 11:00 am at Lake Edge Lutheran Church, 4032Monona Dr., Madison, with the Rev. Stephen Marsh officiating. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Mausoleum in Monona. The family will greet friends at the Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton on Friday, December 2nd from 4:00 to7:00 pm and again at church on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Heritage Assisted Living Center in Stoughton, and to Dr. Patel and the caring staff at Stoughton Hospital.
