La Verne Addison Hungerford, lifelong Madison resident, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2016 at age 88.
Verne was born in Madison, on June 26, 1928 to the late Earl and Alice (Balie) Hungerford. He was a veteran having served 2 years in Korea with the United State Army.
Following his service to his country, Verne was united in marriage to Leatrice C. Burg in Stockbridge, WI. Verne worked for the University of Wisconsin Physical Plant for 40 years until his retirement in 1992.
He was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 107 for five years, past Commander for Post 151, life-time member of VFW Post 1318, and longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Verne was an avid fan of Badger Football, the Packers, and Nascar Racing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Leatrice; sons, Chris, Dan (Janet), and Tom; and sister, Joyce Holden.
A Mass of CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC PARISH AT ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1905 W. Beltline Hwy., Madison, with Msgr. Tom Baxter presiding. A visitation will precede the mass at 9:30 a.m. There will be a reception followed by interment with Military Honors at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
