Lawrence "Larry" Sewell

MADISON—Lawrence “Larry” Keith Sewell, age 77, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022.  He was born on June 7, 1944 in Portage, WI to Elwood and Beverly (Smith) Sewell.

Larry grew up in the Madison area and enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduating from high school.  Upon his return, he joined the Madison Fire Department, and after 24 years of service, he retired with the rank of Lieutenant.

After retirement, Larry moved to Colorado where he met the love of his life, Diane Gottschalk, and they were married on November 21, 1995.  Together, they enjoyed time with their dogs, horses, and critters of all kinds!  Eventually, Larry and Diane moved back to Wisconsin to be closer to family.

In his past time, Larry played for the Wisconsin Rugby Club, was an avid fisherman, and he made several trips to Africa.  Larry particularly enjoyed his many trips up north with his sons, extended family, and many friends.  Larry always opted for the “scenic route” on trips to ensure he could appreciate the wildlife along the way.

Larry is survived by his wife Diane; son Kris (Cheryl); daughter Rayne; sisters Mary (Bob) Martin and Chris (Tom) Soehner, and Jane (Joe) Peterson; and three grandchildren.  He is further survived by Diane Lynch Sewell; and many nieces, nephews, great friends, and former colleagues.

Larry was preceded in death by his sons Jamie and Luke; his parents; and his sister Margaret Schnurbush.

Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 am on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Cress Funeral Home DEERFIELD with a memorial service including firefighting honors and full military honors beginning at 11:00 am.  immediately following the memorial service, friends and family are welcome to gather at IMMANUEL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 138 County Road BB, Marshall (Town of Deerfield), WI 53559 for a reception.
