Lendol Nibbe passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010.  He was born in New Rockford, North Dakota, July 27, 1918, the son of Harry and Bessie Nibbe.  The family moved to Wisconsin in 1932.  Lendol graduated from high school and entered the armed services.  A member of the Greatest Generation, he served during World War II in the 99th Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, in the Pacific Theater which included Australia, New Guinea, New Britain, the Admiralty Islands and the Philippines from 1942 to 1945.  He received an Honorable Discharge at Camp McCoy in 1945.  After service, Lendol worked on a line crew for the Northern States Power Company ( now Excel Energy) from 1947 -- 1969.                        Â
           He married Velma Rohde on June 24, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal, Wisconsin.  The couple moved to Abbotsford, Wisconsin in 1953.  They had two daughters, Jana Beth and Pamela Lynn.  While in Abbotsford, he was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, served on the city council, and was active in the American Legion.  Lendol and Velma moved to Madison, Wisconsin in 2002.                        Â
            He enjoyed traveling and camping with family, attending sports events, attending Army reunions, collecting coins and Green Bay Packer year books, woodworking, reading and spending time with his grandchildren.  He will be remembered for his laughter, his delight in his family, and his great stories.  Family meant everything to Lendol.  If laughter is a measure of a life well lived, then he lived well indeed.                       Â
            He will be deeply missed and is survived by his wife of 60 years, Velma, his daughter Jana and her husband Erik Hagen of St. Paul, Minnesota and their children Jackson, Nina and Alex, his daughter Pamela and her husband Dan Hoadley of Madison, Wisconsin and their children Scott, Matt and Elizabeth.  Also surviving are his sisters Marjorie Hart of Northfield, Minnesota, Genevieve Gust of Northfield, Minnesota, Delores O'Ligney of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, his brother Marvin and his wife Francell Nibbe of Red Wing, Minnesota, sisters-in-law Kay Nibbe of Mankato, Minnesota, Mary Jean Nibbe of Red Wing, Minnesota and Gloria Nibbe of Hobart, Indiana, many beloved nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many good friends.  He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Bessie Nibbe, brothers Alfred, Norman, Ken, and Daryl Nibbe, sister Dorothy Bryner, brothers-in-law Alvin Bryner, Vern Hart, Jerry Gust, Maynard O'Ligney, Gilbert Rohde and sisters-in-law Lucille Rohde and Alice Rohde.                                         Â
