Leo E. Schneider, passed away on December 25, 2024 at his home in DeForest surrounded by his family holding his hands. He was born on January 29, 1949 in Madison WI. Leo was a member of the 1967 Class of Sun Prairie High School. He attended UW Platteville and then transferred to UW Madison, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Leo and Barb (Koenig) married on September 24, 1977, in Loganville at St. John’s Lutheran Church, “the church on top of the hill”.
After graduating from UW Madison, Leo began work at Xerox Corporation as a service technician and continued there until exercising an early retirement option in 2009. Upon retirement from Xerox, he started his own business, LS Solutions LLC, and continued to service many of the machines he had worked on with Xerox as they were no longer servicing certain models. He continued to do this work until his health no longer allowed him to work in October. In the early 70’s, he formed J & L 4 Wheel Drive Center, Inc. with his brother, Jerry. This business was started with the purchase of several military Jeeps from Colorado. With the help of several friends, they brought the Jeeps back from Colorado, restored and then sold them. In 1976, J & L expanded to include a large retail and service business in Sun Prairie on property they purchased from their parents. Leo worked tirelessly at J & L while working full time for Xerox. No grass grew under his feet! J & L led him to his passion of 4 wheeling. He made hundreds of friends across the US doing what he loved especially in Colorado, South Dakota and Utah. He also enjoyed snowmobiling in Wisconsin, South Dakota and Canada. Leo spent many hours each summer gardening, growing many different types of vegetables and more than enough to eat, freeze, can and share with others. He tried to keep his “fun meter” full at all times.
Leo and Barb also enjoyed many camping trips every year with their kids, grandkids and many friends throughout the US. Leo and Barb were very fortunate to travel to many places throughout the US and internationally. Leo’s favorites included Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, the Panama Canal and a river cruise in Europe. Lots of memories were made whomever they were with and wherever they went.
Leo is survived by his wife, Barb, of 47 years, daughters Tara (Adam) Fell of DeForest and Jenna (Tim) Adas of Cambridge. He is also survived by his very much loved grandchildren Ava, Adelynn, Westin and Ella. He is further survived by his brothers Larry (Pam) of Randolph and Jim of Madison. In addition, he is survived by his brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Harley (Pam) Koenig, Reedsburg, Dean Koenig, Hickory NC and Bev (Tom) Keel, Reedsburg and many nieces, nephews, cousins and very dear friends.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Margaret (Deneen) Schneider, brothers, Jerry, Joe and Michael. He was also preceded in death by Barb’s parents, LaVerne and Enola Koenig, along with his grandparents, aunts and uncles.
