Stoughton – Leon Olaf Vaage, age 90, passed away on Saturday May 22, 2021 at the William S. Middleton Veterans Hospital. Leon was born on May 13, 1931 and grew up on the family farm in Rockdale. He graduated from Stoughton High School, and served in the US Air Force 1955-1958, honorably discharged as Airman First Class. He drove semi for over 50 years, “over 5 million miles” for Severson Transport, Graber (now Springs Industries), and finishing his career with Hull Transportation of Stoughton. He was happiest on the road in his big rig traveling across the US until his late 70’s. Leon enjoyed his extended family, his home on Lake Kegonsa and his dogs.
Leon is survived by his sister Betty (Irv) Melaas; his daughter Marcie (Jon) Mahuta, son Martin Vaage (Karen Gehling), and son Marc Vaage (friend Marcia Tarrant); grandchildren Jacque (Nick) Klimek, Samantha Sawle, Austin Vaage, Sophia Gehling, and Samantha Gehling; his great-grandchildren Harlyn Klimek, Callyn Klimek, and Brecklyn Klimek.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM on Thursday May 27, 2021 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 206 W. Prospect St. Stoughton. Burial will follow at Hauge Cemetery in Deerfield.
