LeRoy E. Mellum

LeRoy E. Mellum, age 87, of Waunakee, WI passed away peacefully on February 27, 2025. He was at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI and was battling complications of Leukemia and pneumonia. 

Born on February 16, 1938 to Milo and Wilma (Anderson) Mellum, in Dodgeville, WI. He grew up on the family farm in Highland, WI and graduated from Cobb High School. 

LeRoy was in the Army Reserves and had different jobs in his life but driving dump truck was his most rewarding. He worked for Yahara Materials for many years.

He enjoyed traveling, dancing, family get togethers, Nascar racing and collecting trucks.

He will also be remembered for his extensive hat collection.

He was a member of the Otter Creek Lutheran Church in Highland, WI and currently a member at Lakeview Lutheran Church in Madison, WI. He was a member at East Side Businessman’s club for many years. 

He was married to Joan on November 29, 2015.

Survivors: Wife, Joan, Sister JoAnn Putz, brother Dave (Barb) Mellum. Joan’s daughters – Debbie (Rich) Gore and Brenda Decker. Betty’s children Bruce (Lora) Waddell, Susan (Peter) Halsey and Brett Waddell. Along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and great step-grandchildren, cousins and close friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carol (Vincent) Ramsden, brother-in-law Dean Putz. Previous wife – Barbara and Beatrice “Betty”. And Joan’s son Randall “Randy” Burrington.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeview Lutheran Church, 4001 Mandrake Rd, Madison, WI. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the Otter Creek Cemetery in Highland, WI at 1:30 p.m. A reception will follow at the Dodger Bowl, 321 King St. Dodgeville.
