Liene Berzins, nee Holanders, was born in Latvia on May 25, 1944. She was a child of WWII. In October of 1944, Liene, along with her parents, and other relatives, left Latvia to escape communism. She and her family spent six years in German refugee camps, and in 1950, they were sponsored to the United States.
Liene grew up in Milwaukee and attended schools at JW Riley Elementary School, Kosciuszko Junior High School, and graduated from Bay View High School. After graduation, Liene trained as a Key Punch Operator and eventually worked at an insurance company in Milwaukee.
Liene was married for a short time and had a daughter. Amidst a loving family, Liene’s life was strongly impacted by mental illness.
Her journey has come to an end, but she will always be in our hearts.
