Linda “Lynn” Margason passed away on April 28, 2024. She was born on January 15, 1946 in Milwaukee, the eldest daughter to Mary Rita and Herbert David Margason.
After graduating from John Marshall High School, Lynn competed secretarial school at UW-Milwaukee. She worked her way from secretarial positions to the vice president of several marketing companies, including as the marketing director of the Newport Aquarium in Kentucky.
It was obvious she cared deeply about not only her clients but the animals and was the only executive offered opportunities to jump in the tank. Her clients might remember being put on hold so that she could watch the daily penguin parade going by her office door. Lynn was also known for the creative name she gave the Newport Aquarium’s famous shark ray which she fondly named “Sweetpea.”
Always dedicated in her career, Lynn won an award for a commercial she created and was invited to New York to receive it. She shared this trip and many others with her only sister, someone for whom she waited nine years and even recently, still called her my “baby sister.”
She was married earlier in life but never had children except the four-legged type. She often worked overtime and her dogs were her fur babies, constant companions and welcoming committee as she came home.
Lynn had an amazing sense of humor, often bringing folks to tears with her goofiness. She maintained a positive attitude, was always up for a silly game and was especially playful with her nieces and nephew who she loved as her own. To anyone she was fond of, she would affectionately call them a “weasel.”
She was deeply devoted to her family and close friends, quick-witted, passionate to defend those in need and dedicated to excellence in her career. In her later years, she fought dementia with courage and dignity and even with the pain, rarely missed the chance to put on her silver jewelry and red lipstick. Her family maintains hope that Lynn has not only returned to her heavenly Father but that she was greeted by three loving golden retrievers.
Lynn is survived by her sister, Sandy; nieces Brittany (Theo), Samantha, and nephew, Jakob; great niece and nephews, Gabriel, Camille and Matthias, numerous cousins (especially sister-like relationship with Etta Marie) and friends, particularly longtime friends, Dan Bina and Stephanie Vorhoff.
Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.
Those attending services are encouraged to wear purple, as it was her favorite color.
Donations can be made in her honor to the Dane County Humane Society or the Henry Vilas Zoo.
Special thanks to UW Hospital staff, Brighton Hospice (especially Jaymarie and Nadia) and the memory care staff at Drumlin Reserve of Cottage Grove. All these caregivers recognized Lynn as the dog lover she was and allowed her to be herself.
