Lisa Nass

Lisa Marie Lorelei Nass, age 42, died unexpectedly on April 6, 2012 of cardiac related causes.
Lisa was born on July 2, 1969 in Madison, Wisconsin, the beloved daughter of Lowell and Karen Nass. She graduated from Edgewood High School in 1987, and received double degrees in mathematics and education from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. She received her Master of Arts in Education from Silver Lake College in 2005. Her teaching career began at St. Rita's Catholic School in West Allis. From 1998 until her death, she taught at Longfellow Middle School in Wauwatosa, where she served as a 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teacher. Lisa's passion for math and gift for teaching was made evident in the creative ways she brought math to life in the minds of her students. Her whimsical love for numbers was expressed often, especially on March 14, when she would have a contest with her students to see who could remember the most digits of pi.
Lisa cherished and lived for special moments and celebrations with family and friends. She was an example of faith, committed to living out her Catholic values daily. She is remembered by many for her gentle spirit, humility, and joyous smile. Her involvement in music spanned her lifetime, from Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra to a dedicated member of the Wauwatosa Community Band. Ever a competitive athlete, Lisa continued her love for sports from her time as a varsity soccer player at St. Norbert College to being an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Survivors include: her loving parents, Lowell and Karen Nass of Madison; her devoted siblings, Karl (Maggie Baenninger) Nass of Chicago, Heidi (David) Eckstein of Madison, and Erek Nass of Columbus, Ohio; and five nieces and a nephew, Anna, Abby, Mia, Lukas, and Selamawit, all whom she adored. Other surviving relatives include many dear aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her Aunt Marilyn and Aunt Barb.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Saturday, April 14 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Madison. Monsignor Kenneth J. Fiedler will officiate. Visitation will be Friday evening, April 13, from 5 pm until time of Rosary at 7:00 pm with Reverend Bill Connell. There will also be visitation at the church on Saturday beginning at 9:30 am. Memorials to Lisa may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace School. Cress Funeral Home of Madison is assisting the family with arrangements. A private interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, Indiana at a later date.
