Lois Marie Larson Heilman passed away on May 18, 2023 at Oakwood Village University Woods in Madison where she spent the last years of her life.
She was born in McFarland, WI on January 26, 1926 to Obed E Larson and Mabel Skogen Larson. Lois and her sisters, Eleanore, Geraldine (Jerry), Corinne, and Ruth, grew up at Larson’s Beach Resort on Lake Waubesa, which was owned and operated by her father Obed and mother Mabel. Lois met her husband, Arthur George Heilman of Madison, WI at the Larson Beach Store. They were married on August 18th, 1950 in Milwaukee, WI. Lois graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison, where she received a degree in speech therapy.
Lois is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl Widder Heilman (Jim) of Madison, WI and Caryn Heilman Thole (Jeff) of Stone Bank, WI; and grandchildren Sarah Heilman Widder (Ben) of Menomonie, WI and James Heilman Widder of Madison, WI.
Lois loved roses, hummingbirds, and her family. She found great strength in her Lutheran faith and had a wonderful smile.
The family plans a private memorial service at Upper McFarland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to McFarland Historical Society, P.O. Box 94, McFarland, WI 53558 with a note that the donation is to support the Larson House Museum. The Larson House was owned by Lois’s grandfather John (who also started Larson’s Beach Resort) for many years and in 2012 was purchased by the McFarland Historical Society.
