Madison - Lois Birkeland Selix, age 87, died on Monday, April 25, 2011, at Attic Angels in Madison.
Lois was born on February 7, 1924, to Julius and Grace Birkeland in Chicago, Illinois. She proudly served as a WAVE in the US Navy during World War II. After the war, Lois attended the University of Illinois where she met the love of her life, Clyde Selix. Lois married Clyde on June 26, 1948. She partnered with Clyde in founding American Printing, and later EconoPrint. Lois was a member of Blackhawk Country Club and Covenant Presbyterian Church where she once served as the Sunday school superintendent. She is a past president of the Madison Visiting Nurse Association. Lois also volunteered as a braillist for the blind and served Meals on Wheels.
Lois is survived by her two sons, John (Nancy Bonniwell) Selix and Jay Selix; two granddaughters, Claire and Charlotte Selix, two cousins, Steve (Shelly) Birkeland and Marj Birkeland Baumgartner, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde, her brother Jim, and her parents.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 326 Segoe Road, Madison with Rev. Thomas Williams officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Deacon's Fund at Covenant Presbyterian Church or the Attic Angel Resident Aid Fund.
