McFarland- Lois M. Thessin, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 in Crofton, Maryland.  She was born on January 6, 1932 in Readstown, the daughter of Virgil and Esther (Mickle) Ammerman. She attended Minnesota Bible College before transferring to the Nurses Training Program at Methodist Hospital in Madison.  She met her husband John Thessin at the hospital, where he was calling as a salesman. They were married on April 7th, 1956. Lois continued her nursing career until she became a stay-at-home mother.  She did extensive volunteer work at Madison General and St. Mary's Hospitals. Lois eventually joined her husband at his business, Badger Medical Supply Co. She was an avid sports fan, loved the Packers and UW Football, Basketball, and Hockey and was a sponsor of the UW Athletic Department.  Lois was also a member of the Nakoma Golf Club and loved golfing.  Lois was an active member of Community Christian Church, serving as Treasurer. She participated in Bible Studies, Women's Fellowship groups and White Cross. She additionally volunteered by visiting nursing homes and serving meals at the Salvation Army. Lois is survived by her daughter, Jane Thessin, currently living in Bowie, MD, working for the U.S. Government.  She is additionally survived by her sister-in-Law, Dorothy Schiefelbein; niece, Linda Schiefelbein; and nephew, David Schiefelbein and his wife Margit and family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1999; and her brother Alan. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008 at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in McFarland. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008 at Community Christian Church, 5020 Maher Avenue, Madison. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army in the name of Lois Thessin.
