Lois (Mulcahy) Zeman

Lois Zeman, age 87, of Waunakee  passed away peacefully on Wed., August 28th, surrounded by her loving family.

Lois was born on January 9th, 1937 to Steve and Carrie (Midthun) Mulcahy. Lois grew up working on the farm with 6 brothers and sisters, so hard work became the norm for Lois. Upon graduating from Lodi High School with honors, she enrolled in the Personnel Training School for American Airlines. She passed the course and was offered a job in Chicago but was wooed back by Bob Zeman from Lodi to get married and start a family. Lois worked several jobs throughout her life but always put family first. She worked nights at the canning factory so she could be home with kids during the day. She worked for Waunakee Veterinarian Clinic, Wisconsin Department of Revenue, Wisconsin State Patrol and several others. In each of those jobs, she received numerous awards for her hard work and dedicated service. Lois always found time to support her family whether it was continuing to help on the farm during tobacco harvest or supporting her brothers and sisters with their growing families. Lois and Bob were lucky enough to travel, during their 67 years of marriage, to many places throughout the world and truly enjoyed their adventures together. Lois and Bob truly loved music and dancing, and later in life enjoyed attending musicals and theater. Lois had an incredible talent for helping others and never asked why help was needed, just offered it unselfishly. Lois had a great sense of humor and always had a laugh (cackle) or smile on her face. The “white tornado” never saw anything that could not be cleaned. She adored her children and grandchildren and always attended their events. She loved playing games or cards with her family and was the first person grandkids ran toward to get a hug. Lois always made herself available to give good advice even if you were not ready to hear it!  Lois is simply the Rock (Matriarch) of the family that we all look to for guidance and Love!

Lois is survived by her husband Bob Zeman, her daughter Amy (Jeff) Hein; her son Bob (Lori) Zeman; grandchildren,  Alex (Fiona) & Nick Zeman, Sam, Evan and Adam Hein, great-grandchildren, Everett & Audrey Zeman; sisters, Laurie (Charlie) Bakken and Kim (Vince) Niesen; brother, Steve (Diane) Mulcahy; and many nieces and nephews.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents, Carrie and Steve Mulcahy; daughters, Julie and Mary; sister, Pat (Jim) Labelle and her brothers, Jim & Jack Mulcahy.

The family would like to thank the UW Hospital CCU and Palliative Care teams for their fantastic care they provided for Lois.
