Lon Bjornstad

April 9, 1953 — January 22, 2021

Lon Allen Bjornstad lost his battle with cancer early in the morning on Friday, January 22, 2021.  He was the youngest son of the late George and Dorothy (Johnston) Bjornstad of Madison and Stoughton.  Lonnie was born and raised in Madison and graduated from LaFollette High School.  He drove for the Madison Metro for over 25 years, making so many wonderful and valuable friends there.   For many of his years at Madison Metro, he was elected as a Union Steward.

Lon was an incredible musician at a very early age. There was hardly an instrument he could not play, or any song he could not sing; music was his passion.  He first started playing professionally with the band Cum Laude in the early 70’s.  Lon then joined Dr. Bop and the Headliners, later Count Bop and the Headliners.  They toured together for over 44 years with Lonnie singing some lead vocals. Playing lead and bass guitar.

Lon is survived by his wife, Libby (Mary McHugh); son, Lon Jr.; great-aunt Juanita Johnston; brothers Linn and  Lee (Mary Lou); sister Gail (Rick) Hopke; nephews Jason Bjornstad, Michael(Anna) Hopke; niece Ann Hopke; great-niece Lydia; and great-nephew Callan.   He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Due to the pandemic, there will not be any services. Lonnie was such a wonderful man and leaves behind a world of people who loved him.
