Lore Wahl

Madison - Lore Wahl (nee Rading), age 90, passed away unexpectedly on January 2nd, 2015. Born in Gronau, Germany, she followed her husband to the Boston, Massachusetts area in 1951. Learning to speak English, driving a car and navigating the ways of America while raising two daughters kept her busy. However, she always had time for friends and volunteered as a cooking teacher at the local community center. She loved the eastern mountains for hiking, picking blueberries, and she adored the ocean beaches. Once the family moved to Madison in 1963, Lore was very active with The Friends of the Arboretum, where she became an avid birdwatcher. She also was active in The University League and her German Coffee Klatch. Lore enjoyed walking (what a fast walker she was) and also loved concerts and the Opera. She loved to travel and explore different cultures and befriended many of the foreign faculty members and wives, always ready to help them with their transition to American and University life.

Lore was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Professor Eberhard W. Wahl.

She is survived by her daughters, Gisela Brooks and Doris Wahl, her granddaughter Beth (Keith) Browning, great-granddaughters Tatyana and Taylor Browning, as well as her stepson Klaus Wahl and his family in Germany.

A Celebration of Life gathering will take place Saturday, January 10th, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. The gathering will take place at Oakwood Village West (6205 Mineral Point Rd, Madison, WI 53705) in the Heritage Oaks building, Nakoma Westmorland Room.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Wisconsin Arboretum or Olbrich Gardens.
