Lorin "Bud" Crawmer Jr.

June 4, 1927 — July 26, 2022

Madison/Mount Horeb

Madison/Mount Horeb -Lorin Henry "Bud" Crawmer Jr., age 95, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Ingleside Assisted Living in Mount Horeb. He was born on June 4, 1927, in Chicago, IL, to Lorin Sr. and Dorothy (Egan) Crawmer.

"Let me tell you a story," as Bud would say. Born in 1927 during the depression on the South side of Chicago. He spent his days with his granddads; one was an engineer on the Illinois Central Railroad and the other a conductor on the Rock Island Railroads.  In 1933, Bud and his brother Jim moved with their parents to a new development on the far west side of Madison called Westmoreland, where they built one of the first homes. The story goes on; his father worked for Hercules Dynamite Company, which in Wisconsin, became Badger Explosive Company, where Bud first worked with his father. This company did the blasting for building Hwy 18/151, where Bud’s father originally discovered a cave during excavation that has become The Cave of Mounds. Bud attended Dudgeon Elementary school and Central High School in Madison, then served two years in the Army stationed in Hawaii at the end of World War II from 1945 to 1947. After the Army, he met his wife Joanne, called "Pinky".  They married in 1953 and were able to celebrate more than 50 years together.  Bud was employed by the UW, where he retired as a Supervisor-Grounds Department.  Bud was raised training and hunting with their Springer Spaniels.  He always enjoyed hunting geese, ducks, and pheasants with his brother. He was an avid reader for the Madison newspapers, the Chicago Tribune, National Geographic, and numerous other publications. Bud and Pinky were regular diners at Feiler's Restaurant, enjoying a few cocktails from time to time with friends.

He is survived by his brother, James (Mary) Crawmer, and their family: Debra (Bob) Tribbey; Jim (Larae) Crawmer; Greg Crawmer; Tom (Patti) Crawmer.   Bud also is survived by his long-time close friend: Deb Foster.  Whenever asked how we were related, Deb would say he's my Grandpa....and Bud would smile. Now she says “I'll miss you".
