Lorna Shew

January 8, 1925 — February 6, 2017

Madison - Lorna K. Shew, age 92 passed away on Monday, February 6, 2017, with her loving family by her side. She was born on January 8, 1925, in North Freedom, Wisconsin, the daughter of Carl and Mabel (Neitzel) Zimmerman.

On June 25, 1946, she was united in marriage to Roger Shew. Together they raised two beautiful children, Dennis and Rita. A sad moment in Lorna's life was when she was notified her son, Dennis, died unexpectedly on September 11, 1969, while serving in the Vietnam War. Lorna cherished the time spent with family. Every summer, Lorna and Roger took their children on the Merrimac Ferry and it was tradition to stop and get ice cream on the way home. Lorna kept this tradition going with her grandchildren. Lorna loved being outdoors and spent a lot of time in her vegetable and flower gardens. Every spring the family would look forward to the fresh lilacs in her yard and her amazing zucchini bread. Every summer, Lorna and Roger took their children, Dennis and Rita, up north to visit relatives and to their summer home in Dellwood. These were fun and memorable trips. Lorna also enjoyed taking her youngest granddaughter camping in the summer. Lorna's home during the holidays was always decorated inside and outside. Also, during the holiday season, she would make a special batch of non-alcoholic grasshopper drinks for the grandchildren. With all these family memories, it was difficult for Lorna and the family when she sold her house of which she spent nearly 60 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, reading and putting together puzzles. Lorna touched so many lives and hearts. She will be dearly missed by all whom knew and loved her.

Lorna is survived by her daughter, Rita (Steve) Breyman of Madison; three grandchildren, Tina (Kevin) Bartosch of Stoughton, Brad (Sara) Booth of Madison and Lisa (Jason) Huberd of Stoughton; four great grandchildren, Dennis Triggs, Jordan Scates, Emily and Jayden Huberd; and a brother, Tracy Zimmerman of Baraboo. She was also survived by many other loving family and friends.

Lorna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger; son, Dennis; two sisters, Pearl Goodell and Lorraine Janzen; and a brother, Rollo Zimmerman.
