Lorraine Charlotte Hayden

July 12, 1912 — March 16, 2010

Madison -- Lorraine Charlotte Hayden, long time local antique dealer sometimes known as the ""Hat Lady"", passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 in Cudahy at the age of 97.   She was born July 12, 1912 in Oconomowoc to Edward and Myrtle (Spence) Hartmann.   She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred R.; sons, James Henry and Russell James; three brothers, Lester, Edgar and Harold Hartmann; and three sisters, Myrtle Hartmann, Ruth Ranney and Dorothy Bidwell.   Lorraine was the loving and cherished mother of Sharon Louise (Jack) Vaccaro of Cudahy; special grandmother to Michael (Theresa) Vaccaro and Daniel (Dawn) Vaccaro and proud great-grandmother of Anna Maria, Cecelia and Dominic Vaccaro of Florida and Carson and Cate Vaccaro of South Milwaukee; she is also survived by her younger sister, Hertha Wade of LaCrosse and a brother-in-law, Arthur Hayden of Dallas, Texas.   She is further survived by her ""special"" nieces and nephews and many friends.   Lorraine grew up on a farm and graduated from Mindoro High School and attended the old LaCrosse Teacher's College.   In 1934, she was married to Fred Richard Hayden, a civil engineer, and during his job with DuPont Co. lived in many different states.   Fred retired from the State of Wisconsin as the Secondary Roads Engineer and Lorraine lived in Madison over 55 years.   She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.   Lorraine had a true passion for beautiful old things especially art glass, cut crystal, china, linens, jewelry and pottery.   She was in the antique business for over 40 years.   Other interests included music.   She played the piano and organ and especially enjoyed Dixieland Jazz.   Cooking was important to her and her Christmas cookies were famous.   Gardening, flowers and traveling were other hobbies.   Her church was very important to her and she was a charter member of the Orchard Ridge United Church of God.   She will be remembered for her zest for life, sweet smile and kindness to others and her many hats and jewelry.   May her positive attitude about life endure with all who knew her!   A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 3, 2010 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison.   Friends and family may gather at the funeral home on Monday, May 3, 2010 from 10:30 a.m until the time of service.  Memorials can be sent to the family for a fund to be established in Lorraine's name.   Special thanks to the Ramsey Woods Residence staff in Cudahy for their kind care.
