Madison-Louise M. Soder, age 86, died on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at the Agrace HospiceCare Center , Fitchburg . She was a first generation American, born January 14, 1927 in Green Bay, WI to German parents, Max & Magdalena (Emmel) Richter. She was a graduate of East High School , Green Bay and Oshkosh State Teacher's College (now UW-Oshkosh). Louise taught in Beaver Dam, WI from 1949-52 and then at West High School in Madison until her retirement in 1991.
On April 13, 1952 Louise married Henry Soder. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage until Henry's death on January 6, 1998. They enjoyed traveling and made numerous trips to Germany to visit relatives. Louise loved gardening, being a guide at Frank Lloyd Wright's Unitarian Meeting House, and membership in the Sherlock Holmes Reading Group, the Agatha Christie Book Club and the University League.
Louise is survived by her daughter, Christine Soder; her sister, Margaret Richter; many cousins both in the U.S. and Germany .
A funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Living Christ, 110 N. Gammon Road , Madison with Rev. Daniel C. Kowert officiating. A reception will follow service immediately. A visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
