Lucille M. Hall, age 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, September 22, 2022, at Attic Angel Place in Middleton, WI. Lucy was born in Milwaukee, WI on April 16, 1931. She lived in Appleton, WI during part of her childhood, attending Wilson Junior High School. As a teen, she aspired to be a nurse. The family moved back to the Milwaukee area where she attended Washington High School in Wauwatosa, graduating on June 16, 1949. She was a member of choir and continued to be interested in music throughout her life.
She moved to Madison with her family, where she met her husband, David J. Hall, Sr., on a double date. Prior to Dave’s graduation from the UW School of Engineering and starting a family, she worked at Ray-O-Vac. Lucy and Dave were married on August 23, 1952 at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Madison and were together for over 51 years until David passed on March 24, 2004. She was a full-time parent, the mother of three children, devoted to her family. Lucy loved to cook and entertain, treating many of her friends to gourmet meals in her home or at Woodland Lodge. She was a warm, outgoing and engaging person. As a young woman, she did some local modeling and was a vision of beauty during her married life when going ballroom dancing with her husband. Lucy and Dave also spent time in Door County, where they owned a home, after Dave retired.
Lucy was also a member of many civic and charitable organizations during her life and was dedicated to her volunteer interests. She was an Angel for over 31 years, receiving an award for her service. She was a long-time member of Grace Episcopal Church, the Rector’s Guild and served on the Vestry. Lucy was affectionately known as “the Lamp Lady” for the estate sales. Other organizations she was active in included the American Cancer Society after the death of a dear friend, Friends of Civic Music, Jaycettes, Junior Women’s Club, Madison Civics Club, and P.E.O.
Lucy was predeceased by her husband David, mother, Mabel R. Hanson, and father, Olaf J. Hanson, and two of her brothers, Robert and James Hanson. She is survived by her brother Denis M. Hanson (Karen) of The Villages, FL, her children Valerie H. Connolly (Tim) of Danbury, CT, David J. Hall, Jr. (Mary Kay) of Racine, WI, and Steven G. Hall (Jo) of Issaquah, WA, her grandchildren, Alister B. Connolly (Angie), David J. Hall III (Michelle), Heather A. Haneline (Jeff) and Katherine A. Connolly and her great-grandchild George J. Haneline, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11am, Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Grace Episcopal Church, 116 West Washington Avenue in Madison, WI. A livestream option http://youtu.be/hYZULpIkq8o The family will greet guests before and after the service. A private burial will follow.
