Madison - Lucille Evelyn Kennelly, age 97, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Oakwood Village West.
Lucille was born October 1, 1913, in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, to Henry and Freda (Bernhard) Schleden. She lost her mother to the influenza epidemic in 1919 and was raised in Chicago by her grandparents Marie and Valentine Bernhard. She worked at Marshall Fields in the Loop and later at the Continental Bank.
She married Edward Kennelly in Chicago in 1940. They moved to Appleton, Wisconsin in 1953 and then to Lake Geneva, where they raised their two children. Ed and Lu enjoyed a long retirement in Singer Island, Florida, with antiques, world travel, and flea markets among their interests.
Lu loved gardening, reading, and beautiful things. Her family will miss her strong spirit.
She is survived by her son, Mike Kennelly, daughter Patti (Tom) Sinclair, and grandson Colin Sinclair, all of Madison and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002 and by her three brothers, Bernard, Harold, and Walter.
Many heartfelt thanks to the hardworking, patient, and compassionate staff at Covenant Oaks for their care of Lu over the past eight years. Private graveside services were held in Reedsburg.
