MADISON- Lucille May Nedrebo, age 95, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was reborn to her Father in Heaven on Monday, October 13, 2008, at the Don & Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center. Lucille was born in Richland, Iowa to John and Martha Shirkey (Brater) on May 23, 1913. As a teenager, Lucille, worked for her room and board as she attended Keokuk, IA High School and Parsons College. After graduating college she became a grade school teacher for three years in Iowa and then moved to a position in Monroe, WI. While attending the University of Wisconsin Summer Masters program in child psychology Lucille met her loving husband, Kristoffer Nedrebo. On February 28, 1942, she married her husband of 47 years and by school district rules her career in education came to an end. Soon after their wedding, Kristoffer was drafted for WWII and Lucille enlisted in the first ever division of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corp (WAAC). After leaving the military, Lucille and Kristoffer returned to Madison to set roots and start their family. In 1944 they founded a small tailor shop called Nedrebo's which grew to a formalwear institution throughout the area which they owned until their retirement in 1979. As a college student she was a member of the AAUW (American Association of University Women). She was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Lucille opened her heart to everyone and eagerly served as a Girl Scout Leader for eldest daughter Charlotte and as a Room Mother for beloved daughter Karen at Edgewood Elementary School. She took pleasure in attending and volunteering at Bethel Lutheran Church. Lucille and Kristoffer were members of Nakoma Country Club where Lucille was a president of the women's auxiliary in 1952. She enjoyed playing golf and up until two weeks ago still attended Bridge Club every Wednesday afternoon with her dear friends, through good cards and bad. In 2003, at age 90, the University Of Wisconsin School Of Child Psychology awarded her with an Honorary Master's Degree in spite of her missing three credits from 1942. Lucille is survived by her daughter Karen Grede-Diller (Nels Diller); Grandchildren, Duane Pillar (LeAnne), Douglas Pillar (Ina), Cynthia Pillar, Kristoffer Pillar (Pamela), Ben Diller (Mari), and Jeremy Diller (Karla); Great-Grandchildren, Luke and Erik Pillar, Rachel Lauher, Courtney and Sean Killary, Alyssa Pillar, and Hana & Sunny Diller. Her husband, Kristoffer in 1989 and daughter, Charlotte in 1994, precede her in death. Special thanks to Theresa for helping Lucille maintain her happiness and quality of life to the very end. Thanks to Pastor Curtis Everson, who provided her with Spiritual guidance and support. Finally, many thanks to everyone who opened their heart and gave of their time to help Lucille continue her life in her home with the joy and dignity she deserved.
