MADISON- Lucy M. Genin, loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother entered into eternal life on April 7, 2015. She was born to Massimo and Palmina [Viviani] Martinelli on December 5, 1924 in Madison. She attended St. Joseph's Grade School and Madison Central High School. After graduation she was employed by the Rayovac Company in their main office. She met her future husband Bill in 1946. They were married on June 5, 1948 at St. Joseph's Church. She stopped working after their first child was born to become a home maker and raise her family. She raised a family of eight that remain very close. After her eight children were grown, she worked as a Crossing Guard for the City of Madison Schools after which she volunteered at meal sites for the West Madison Senior Coalition and at a Lechayim Lunch site for many years. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace since 1956.
Lucy was a vibrant and caring person. During World War II, she enjoyed dancing at the USO events with GIs stationed at Traux Field. She regularly called her family members to make sure everything was alright. True to her Italian heritage, she liked having company at her home to engage in conversation and laughs, and she always offered food and drink. She had fun riding her bicycle to participate in neighborhood activities. She, along with Bill, regularly attended their children and grandchildren's athletic and social events. She loved organizing games for children to play and win prizes at family gatherings. Lucy was always available to help her neighbors and friends by sending one of her boys or Bill. Despite raising eight children, her home was always welcome for her children's friends, some of whom stayed for extended periods.
She is survived by Bill, her loving husband of sixty-six years, and her eight children, sons Ken [Linda], Mark [Sue], Don {Kim}, Rick [friend Deb], Greg [Cathy], Dave [Sherry], Bill [Julie] and her daughter Gloria [Todd] Steyer and fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, her brother Victor [VI] Martinelli , brother-in-law Teddy Jafferis
and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, twin brother Hubert, two sisters, Rose Jafferis and Marcella Martinelli.
