Ludwig Karl Hermann Hansen, age 77, passed away on Sunday 23, 2014. He was born on January 19, 1937 in Niebull, Germany to Richard and Luise, (Nissen) Hansen. On September 20, 1959 he was married to Susan Egger at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
In Niebull, Ludwig grew up farming with his parents. At the age of 16 he immigrated to the United States for the opportunity to own land. He began working in Iowa farming with his uncles. From 1958-1963 he built silos for Madison Silos across the Midwest. His dream was to become a dairy farmer. In 1963, Ludwig and Sue purchased their first dairy farm in Marshall, WI. In 1967, they bought a second farm in Deerfield, WI. In the mid-seventies he was nominee for the Outstanding Farmer award. He retired from a successful lifetime of farming. Today, his son Andreas carries on the farming tradition at Hansen Farms.
Ludwig came into this world a mere four pounds in 1937 and 77 years later left with many loved and personal accomplishments defining a life lived with determination. He is survived by his wife Susan; mother-in-law Myrtle Egger; seven children; Heidi, Kurt (Pam), Ludwig (Raquel), Andreas (TJ), Ingrid (Matt), Emily, and Erika (Jenn); 16 grandchildren and his brother Harald Hansen of Germany.
Ludwig was preceded in death by his parents, baby brother Christian, grandson Christopher, and son-in-law Robert.
A celebration of life will be held at Badger Farms, 1682 County Road BB, Deerfield, on Friday, November 28, 2014 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. A private burial will take place at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery near his farm in Deerfield.
