Madison - Lyle Labon Lilly passed away Monday October 24th at St. Mary's Hospital from congestive heart failure. He was 95. Mr. Lilly was born to Ira and Harriet Lilly on January 1st 1916 and raised on a farm in Spring Brook WI. In 1934 he graduated from nearby Elk Mound High School and in September of that same year moved to Madison Wisconsin. He found work delivering baked goods for the Sainer Bakery and it was on this route that he met Marie (Marian) Mohr, whom he married on September 5th 1937. (They would be married for 67 years.) During WWII he worked as a security guard at Badger Ordinance Works, patrolling on motorcycle. When the war ended he got a job driving bus for Badger Coaches and worked there until 1962 when he began managing the Badger Bus Depot. He managed the depot until he retired in 1984. Lyle loved travel and visited all 50 states, all the provinces of Canada, most of Europe, England, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. He enjoyed the hunting and fishing and the outdoors. He will be remembered as a good-humored, kind, compassionate man who always gave people the benefit of the doubt and who was always there for his friends and family. Lyle is survived by his daughter Jeane, nieces Joyce and Jean, nephews Maurice, Wayne, John, Peter, Jerome and Bryan and grandchildren Derek and Dara. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marian, his siblings Squire, John, Vada, Viva and Woodrow and his nephew Stanley. There will be a visitation Friday, October 28th from 4-6 PM at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, WI 53705. Funeral Services will be Saturday, October 29th at 10:00 am at the same location. The family wishes any donations be made to Agrace Hospice Care or Bethel Lutheran Church.
