Lyle Ricky Wilson, 73, of Stoughton, WI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 as a result of complications from peripheral artery disease.
Lyle was born on April 17, 1951 to Ruth Pearl Miller and Lyle Arthur Wilson in Richland Center Wisconsin. After Lyle graduated in 1969 from McFarland High School he was drafted and served in the US Navy from 1969 to 1975. Years later he shared stories with his family of his time in the Navy and earned the nickname “undercover Lyle” from his grandson, Grady.
On November 5, 1977 Lyle married his beloved Julie Ann Drogsvold. They loved their daughter Tammy Jo beyond measure. Lyle and Julie welcomed their sweet but sassy baby girl Jessica Ann in July of 1980, completing their beautiful little family. Lyle and Julie created a loving home in which they raised their girls. They loved to camp, have family get-togethers, watch NASCAR and watch their beautiful girls grow. Lyle was a man of his word and stayed true to his vows, loving and caring for his sweet wife until her untimely passing after a battle with cancer in 2003.
Lyle married his “earth angel” Vickey Rae Stolen on August 5, 2006. They lived their lives to the fullest throughout their 20 years (18 years of marriage) together. They enjoyed traveling and cruising the world, but they also enjoyed the simple pleasures of their lives at home surrounded by their children, grandchildren and close friends. Most recently, they loved to travel to Florida spending time with their best friend Ann Davison. The love between Lyle and Vickey was pure and simple. Lyle knew he was a lucky man to find such love. And to his sweet Vickey, the answer is always yes, you look wonderful tonight.
Lyle was proud of his almost 20-year career with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. He made lifelong friends…and boy, did he have stories! Lyle enjoyed retirement even more. He spent much of his time “putzing.” And if you asked him, “putzing” was his favorite thing to do. He loved his 1976 Corvette and we can see him driving with the “T”-tops off and the wind in his hair, which he immediately brushed after the drive. He knew more than any person should about NASCAR, as an Earnhardt Sr. fan through and through. We remember Lyle was most content sitting on the beach with a cocktail in hand.
Lyle will always be remembered for his warm and loving smile, his strength and his gentle love. Lyle was a man of few words, but he always got his point across. We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. We will miss him every day! Lyle’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Lyle is survived by his wife Vickey; his daughters, Tammy (Willie) Schroeter and Jessica (Ryan) Wipperfurth, step-sons, Ryan (Lissa Coronado) Leikness and Jesse (Jen) Leikness; 8 grandchildren Michael, Julia, Grady, Nora, Kandon, Brock, Olivia, and Vivienne, life-long friend of 50 years Ann Davison, brothers, Rock Wilson, Steve (Marie) Wilson, as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers; Doug and Bob.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 4pm. Stoughton VFW 200 Veterans Rd, Stoughton, WI 53589. Military Honors will be at 5:30 pm.
A special thank you to Agrace HospiceCare, and his Dean Oncology Team, Dr. Ryan Porter and Dr. Shagun Saggar, Connie and Kat our caring RN’s. We are so grateful for your kindness and comfort in caring for Lyle.
