M. Josephine Furseth

Stoughton- M. Josephine Furseth, age 86, passed away Monday, September 15, 2008 at a Madison Hospital following a brief illness.  She was born August 9, 1922 in the Town of Porter, a daughter of the late Andrew and Lena (Jerdee) Nelson.  Jo attended the Cooksville School, later graduating from Stoughton High School.  She married Floyd L. Furseth of Stoughton on December 20, 1941.  He was drafted into the Army during WWII and killed in active duty on August 11, 1943.  Jo resided with her parents on the family farm in the Cooksville area and was a caregiver to them prior to their death.  She was employed by the State of WI, Dept. of Motor Vehicles for many years prior to her retirement.  She was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Sons of Norway Lodge.  Survivors include her son, LeRoy Furseth of Janesville; two grandchildren, DeAnne Furseth and Terry (Liane) Furseth, both of Delavan; four great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren; sister, Ann Hansen of Stoughton.  She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, William, Thomas and Obert Nelson; sister, Gertrude Heffel; and grandson, Thomas Furseth.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 19, 2008 at First Lutheran Church, 310 E. Washington Street, Stoughton, with Rev. Bill Lehman officiating.  Burial will follow at the Eastside Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 18, 2008.  Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon in the church fellowship hall following the services.  Jo, as she was affectionately known, was a strong people person, was a family caregiver and lived and loved life to the fullest.
