Marcella Corbett, 85, of Waunakee, Wisconsin, formerly of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Thursday, Oct. 13 at Good Samaritan in Lodi. Marcella was born Oct. 2, 1926 in Chicago to Arthur and Emma Conway Bartholmey. Her younger years were mostly spent in Chicago, with a short stay in Wisconsin, where she graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in the class of 1944. She married Francis (Fritz) Corbett on May 14, 1949 and they celebrated almost 51 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2000.
Marcella was employed at various places during her life, including Illinois Bell, the Savanna Army Depot and the Savanna Schools. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Waunakee, where she and Fritz relocated in retirement to be near their grandchildren. Marcella enjoyed card playing, especially Euchre, crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.
Marcella will be dearly missed by her daughter, Therese (Steve) Geishirt of Waunakee, and her grandchildren, Andrew, Katie, Kristen and Kelli Geishirt; a brother, Richard Bartholmey of Michigan; sister in law, Wilma Corbett, and brother in law, Russell (Joyce) Corbett, all of Savanna; many nieces and nephews, and the many members of Steve's family and extended family who saw her as one of their own. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fritz, a brother, Robert Bartholmey, and several sisters in law and brothers in law. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 17, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 209 South Street, Waunakee, Wisconsin, with Fr. David Carrano presiding. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30-11 a.m. Interment of cremains will take place at St. John Cemetery in Savanna, Illinois at a later date.
Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers, which will be distributed in Marcella's memory. Her family would like to extend special thanks and gratitude to Dr. John Ewalt and staff, especially Kristin and Courtney, for the wonderful care provided to Marcella during these last years.
