MADISON - Our beloved Mother, Marcella Theresa ""Sally"" Meadowcroft, age 94, died peacefully at home on Friday, May 7, 2010, attended by her family. Â She was born on March 11, 1916, in Waunakee, to John and Clara (Fiscus) Grosse. Sally grew up and attended school in the Springfield Corners/ Martinsville area and was a lifelong Wisconsin resident. Â She was married to Harlan Beaulieu Meadowcroft on Feb. 28, 1938, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Madison. At various times, Sally and Harlan made their home and raised their children in Madison, Stoughton, McFarland, Milwaukee and Three Lakes; but it was home, wherever they were. Â Sally worked outside the home most of her life, primarily as a nursing assistant in nursing homes, but also helped Harlan in his many occupational endeavors, worked as an aide for handicapped individuals, and lastly, she managed the nutrition site at an elderly and handicapped apartment complex until finally retiring at age 82. She was appointed the second tenant member of the Madison Community Development Authority Housing Operations Subcommittee in 1993, and received a 1997 Worker of the Year award from the Over 50 Employment Services of Madison. Â Sally loved gardening, bird-watching, reading, doing puzzles, crafts, and working with children and the elderly. She was devoted to God and her family. Â She is survived by her children, James (Charlene) of Black River Falls, Elaine (David) Mell of La Valle, Dennis of Madison, Janet (Steven) Buechner of Fitchburg, William (Diane) of Madison, and Karen of Cottage Grove; her brother, Vernon ( Alice) of Cottage Grove; sisters, Lucille (Pete) Smith of Chesterfield, Mo., and Shirley Holford of Madison; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Â Sally was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harlan on Dec. 9, 1982; by her sisters, Elizabeth Davis, Petronella Meutz, Jean Derra and Dorothy Gillespie; and great-granddaughter, Katelyn Matz. Â A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Drive, Madison on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends may call at the CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with Rosary Service at 7 p.m., on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, or at the church an hour before the service. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Â Memorials may be made to HospiceCare (hospicecareinc.com); the Catholic Multicultural Center (c/o Queen of Peace); or Elizabeth House (www.carenetdane.org/elizabethhouse.html).
