Margaret Bowden

May 9, 1919 — June 2, 2012

Margaret Jane "Peg" Bowden - Margaret Bowden, 93, died on June 2nd at Attic Angel Place in Middleton. She had resided there since 2004 and was much loved by fellow residents, staff, and volunteer "angels". The friendship and support she enjoyed there gave her much happiness during the last eight years of her life.

Peg was born on May 9, 1919 in Duluth, Minnesota, the youngest of three children of the Rev. John V. and Ellinor Berger. She grew up and graduated from high school in Portage, Wisconsin, where her father was pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Along with her siblings, she attended Carroll College in Waukesha where, after graduation, she became an admissions counselor.

It was at Carroll that she also met her husband, Robert H. Bowden, of Marinette. They were married on June 26, 1943 in Portage, with her father officiating. Following Robert's completion of medical school, he was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Air Force and assigned to Warren A.F.B in Cheyenne, Wyoming. From 1950 on, the Bowdens would make Wyoming their home. They eventually settled in Casper, where Dr. Bowden practiced obstetrics/gynecology until 1985.

Margaret was a loving and devoted homemaker, delighting in her husband's career, her two daughters, many friendships, and social groups such as Garden and Gourmet clubs and P.E.O. She was an active member of both First Presbyterian and Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian churches of Casper.

Following Dr. Bowden's retirement, the couple enjoyed happy years together gardening, cooking, traveling, watching their daughters and their families grow, and dividing their time between Casper, Mesa, Ariz., and Madison. Upon her husband's death in 2003, Margaret returned to Wisconsin and resided at Attic Angel Place.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings: Dr. John V. Berger, Jr.
(and wife Janet), and Mary Ellin Frohmader (and husband Stanley). She is survived by her two daughters Jane (Steven) Morgan of Madison and Kathryn (Thomas) Hill of Wheatland, Wyoming; three grandsons: Evan Morgan (wife Kiara and their son Louis) of Madison, Andrew Morgan (wife Julia and soon-to-be-born child) of Minneapolis, and Bowden "Bo" Hill of Fort Collins, Colorado; also numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Attic Angel Place, 8301 Old Sauk Road, Middleton, on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Anyone wishing to honor Peg with a memorial gift may make a donation to Agrace Hospice Care, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 53711.
