Sun Prairie/Agrenta, IL.-Margaret Jane Laughlin Fairweather, age 91, died on Sunday, May 27, 2012 in Sun Prairie, WI. She was born on Aug. 8, 1920 in Cincinnati, Ohio to David Black Laughlin and Ella Anita (McClelland) Laughlin. She spent most of her childhood in and around Moweaqua, Illinois and graduated from Moweaqua High School. Margaret received her Bachelors degree in Music Education, Band and Vocal Music, from Millikin University and her Masters Degree in Music from the University of Oklahoma. She was one of the first female marching band directors. She taught music in several school districts including Winchester and Warrensburg. She also taught flute at Millikin and gave piano lessons from home to many generations of children. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, the Decatur Area Music Teachers Association and the Argenta Presbyterian Church where she served as pianist. Margaret leaves behind a brother, Robert (Joyce) Laughlin, Charlotesville, VA; two daughters Barbara (Russell) Byer of Lafayette, Indiana and Mary (Donald) Dexter of Middleton, WI; a son Mark H. (Celia Shneider) Fairweather of Lincoln, MA.; a granddaughter, Madeline Dexter of Madison, WI; and a grandson Nicholas Fairweather of Lincoln,MA. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Harold L, Fairweather.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Argenta Presbyterian Church, 281 N. North St., Argenta, ILL. Rev. Marla Bauler will preside. Burial will take place in the Friends Creek Cemetery with a reception to follow at the church. Memorials may be made to the Argenta Presbyterian Church.
