Margaret M. Hilgendorf

February 19, 1921 — June 20, 2010

Margaret M. ( Austin) Hilgendorf, passed away on Sunday, June 20th, 2010 at the Don & Marilyn Anderson Hospice Care Center in Fitchburg.   She was born in the town of Vermont, to the late Fred and Mary (Handel) Austin On February 19th, 1921. She married Ervin P. Hilgendorf on August 27th, 1940.   Margaret is survived by 3 daughters, Sally (Marcel) Kjorlie, Marilyn (Steve Meffert) Ballweg, Diane (Steve) Mulcahy and 3 sons, Dennis (Karen), Rick (Jane), Steve (Joan). 15 grandchildren, Julie Kuberka, Cara Kjorlie, Sheri Scarpa, Alan Kjorlie, Darrell Kjorlie, Deb Warmuth, Brian Stace, Rick Ballweg, Wendy Attoe, Susan Kitts, Ann Mulvaney, Amy Olson, Steve Mulcahy Jr., Jodi Mulcahy and April Hilgendorf, 23 great grandchildren, a sister in law, Tillie Austin and many nieces & nephews.   Margaret enjoyed her gambling trips to Vegas over the years with her sister Ruth, and Ho Chunk occasionally. Cooking and baking for her family and friends was her passion. She also loved sewing and made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed fixing and repairing anything. She was always there to help her family and friends, whenever possible.   She worked at Mendota State Hospital for 25 years before retiring in 1981 after heart surgery.   Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Ervin in 1999, a daughter Karen Stace in October of 2009, her siblings, Ruth Stoffels, Ann Kalsow and Joe Austin. Brothers- in- law, Alan Kalsow and Albert Stoffels.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday June 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church,209 South St, Waunakee, Msgr. James Gunn will officiate.  Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.   .   A special THANK YOU to Hospice Care Inc., Parkside assisted living, Dr. Ringdahl and everyone who visited Mom while at Parkside.   We love you Mom / Grandma Maggie and will always miss you.
