Margaret McCarthy

Sun Prairie/Indianapolis - Margaret McCarthy, age 87, passed away on December 13^th, 2009 surrounded by her family after a long and courageous 26 year battle with breast cancer. She was born on November 20, 1922 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Spiro and Efterpy Pantelakis. Margaret graduated from Marshall High School in Chicago. After graduating high school, she worked for the Chicago Transit until she met John McCarthy whom she married on January 14, 1942 in Chicago, IL. They later moved to Sun Prairie in 1951where they raised three sons, Michael, Patrick and Joseph. Margaret worked at Langer Motor Company in Sun Prairie for 20 years with her dear friend Lois Jensen. She enjoyed visiting with friends and family and enjoyed her five grandchildren. She liked to play the piano, cook for her family, going out for lunch with her friends, family and telling stories of her childhood. She was a great listener and cared deeply about her entire family. She was a wonderful Grandmother who loved playing cribbage and Greek card games with her grandchildren and listening to their stories. Pat's many Indianapolis friends were huge fans of Mom's famous almond birthday cakes for years. She was a member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Madison, WI. Margaret had a great sense of humor and was loved very much by her family and friends. Survivors include her 2 sons, Michael McCarthy and Patrick McCarthy; her sisters, Christine Walls and Anna Reynolds; a brother, Frank (Tina) Pantelakis; grandchildren, Robert McCarthy, Michelle (Tom) Klessig, Carrie (Corey) Knautz, Corey McCarthy (Mike Shaw) and Kelly McCarthy (Eric Bird); great grandchild, Sean Bird; many nieces, nephews and friends. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, her son Joseph, her brothers, Angelo and James Pantelakis, her sisters, Celia Molloy and Stella Sigalos.

Funeral services will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, on Monday, December 21, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Michael Vanderhoef presiding. Burial will follow at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens in Sun Prairie. A visitation will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, on Sunday, December 20, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a Trisagion service at 4:00 p.m. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 21, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Margaret's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101-9950.
