McFarland- Margarete Johnson, age 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, January 10, 2017. She was born in Germany on May 26, 1927, the daughter of Arthur and Johanna Stanchus. Margaret met John Johnson who was serving in the military and was stationed in Germany. Soon after, they married, emigrated to the U.S. and settled in Blooming Grove. Together they built their home in the Town of Dunn and have lived there for over 60 years. Margaret enjoyed spending time with family and friends especially at the cabin. She was a dedicated member of the McFarland Legion Edwards-Foye Post 534 auxiliary. After John's death in 1986 Margaret became more active in the community. She enjoyed volunteering, crocheting blankets for the VA hospital, and was a dedicated member of TOPS 453 where she was affectionately known as the Sunshine Gal. Margaret was the most giving and caring woman, always putting others needs before herself. Mom fed everyone, even if you weren't hungry. Her home was the hub of the neighborhood where the kids would gather, and to this day they still would call her "mom" or "Aunt Marg." Heaven has gained a true angel and she will be missed by all who knew her. Margaret is survived by her three children, John (Linda) Johnson, Pat Johnson, and Annamarie Johnson, all of McFarland; two daughters-in-law, Donna and Kay Johnson; grandchildren, John (Kari) Johnson of Florida, Justin (Tawan) Johnson of Colorado, Jennifer (David) Keokanya of Madison, Michael and Brandi Johnson, both of Madison, Jeremiah (Patty) Johnson of Janesville, Paul (Amanda) Johnson of McFarland, Peter (Brittany) Johnson of Sun Prairie, Trevor (Jill) Cooley of Janesville, and Dakota Johnson Miller of Janesville; and 18 great grandchildren. Along with her family she leaves behind many great friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; sons, Michael and James Johnson; and two grandsons, Shawn James Cooley and Chessie James Johnson. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Cress Funeral Home in McFarland, with Rev. Timothy Dean officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon at the McFarland American Legion Post 534 immediately following the services. Friends may greet the family from 11:00 AM until the time of services Saturday. Margaret will be laid to rest in Blooming Grove Cemetery at a later date. Please share your memories of Margaret.
