Maria Pilar Sundby

Stoughton- Maria Pilar Seral Farlete Sundby, age 85, entered into Heaven on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at her home after a brief illness. She was born in Zaragoza, Spain on April 21, 1939, the youngest of six children, to Mariano Seral and Maria Lucia Farlete. 

Maria grew up in Spain. She met the love of her life John H. Sundby while he was serving in the US Air Force and was stationed in Spain. On August 21, 1961 they were united in marriage and started their Air Force family journey. Maria loved to garden and drink good coffee. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed shopping, especially a good sale. Maria enjoyed her family, most of all being YaYa to her grandsons. She was a kind and beautiful soul. Maria was sharp and knowledgeable, a good listener, had a great sense of humor and a beautiful smile. 

She will be deeply missed and is lovingly survived by her three children, Mary (Steve Aaberg) Sundby, Maria “Pili” (Mike) Hougan, and John (Erica) Sundby Jr.; three grandsons, Paul Sundby, Jake Hougan, and Jack (Myah) Sundby; three sisters, Maria Jesus, Maria Conchita, and Maria Teresa; and numerous nieces and nephews. Maria was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Mariano and Francisco. 

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Cress Funeral Home, 206 W. Prospect Street, Stoughton, with Fr. Randy Budnar officiating. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon reception following the burial at Halverson's Everything Nice. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Ann Parish.
