Marian M. Bardwell was born September 16, 1922, on a farm near Orient, IA to Sammie Smith and
Lora (Stewart) Smith. She passed away December 10, 2020, at 98 years old in Sun Prairie, WI.
Family graveside services will be on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at the Greenfield, IA Cemetery.
Marian married Robert Johnson in 1944. They had three daughters in that marriage. She married
Sgt.Maj. William Barbery. They lived on army posts in Washington D.C., Okinawa, Japan, and
Houston, TX. While in Houston Marian worked at Superior Oil Co, as a computer tape librarian.
After Bill's death, she married S.W. Bardwell. They retired to Brandon, MS, S.W.'s hometown.
There they were active in the MS. Antique Auto Club where Marian was a long time secretary/treasurer.
They were active members of the Brandon United Methodist Church.
Marian loved all things creative. She dabbled in many artistic forms, but she especially loved oil
painting and sewing.
Those left to lovingly remember Marian are her three daughters, Becky Jank of Woodbridge, VA.,
Judy (Albert) Oetzel of Davenport, IA., and Christine (Steven) Brodsky of Sun Prairie, WI. and two
step-daughters, Penny Gutierrez and Nicki Bardwell, both of Houston area, 6 grandchildren and
9 great-grandchildren. Also Jimmy Bardwell, nephew of S.W., who made sure Marian was well
every day after S.W. passed away, until she moved to Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and her husbands.
