Madison - Marian Elizabeth Holm (Pietsch) passed away in Madison, Wisconsin, Saturday, March 26.
She leaves behind a brother, Richard, innumerable relations and friends, near and far and an adoring family who ponder coping without the world's best cooking: three children, Becky Oftedahl (Larry), Eric and Dave (Cheryl); and five grandchildren, Kris (Sarah) and Sarah Oftedahl; Jesse, Erik and Mathias Holm; two great-grandchildren, Nina and Soren (Kris).
She was 89 and a confirmed optimist and unassuming servant of buoyant, compassionate spirit that even a long struggle with a debilitating stroke could not temper. When Marian Holm said Good Morning, she meant Good Morning!
This pint sized beacon of comfort and joy lifted her light to us in the familiar colors of an irrepressible smile, unreserved kindness, selfless, uncritical generosity, and humble, embracing grace and gratitude for the lives, all of them, that touched hers around the world. She carried it for us, and now it has passed to us that we may aspire to keep it bright.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 116 W. Washington Ave., Madison, on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 2:00 pm.
Memorials can be made to Lutheran World Relief, P.O. Box 17061, Baltimore MD 21298, c/o Kathryn Wolford; or Grace Episcopal Church Pantry, 116 W. Washington Ave., Madison WI 53703.
The Holm and Oftedahl families wish to thank Dr. Michael Thom and his colleagues at UW-Clinic West for their sustaining comfort and care; and to the staff at St Mary's Care Center for providing Marian a second home and nurturing family.
