Marian (Gmeinder) Stich passed away April 10, 2023 at All Saints Assisted Living in Madison. She was born on September 22, 1921 in Bristol, WI. She met Gordon Stich at a wedding dance and they were married on January 6, 1942 while he was home on leave from the Army. She travelled across the US with him during his service finally settling in Madison to raise their family. She is preceded in death by her husband Gordon Stich, sons Richard and Paul Stich and daughter in law Karen Stich.
Marian was a charter member and active volunteer at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish. She could always be counted on to chair or serve on a committee, make a dish to pass, supervise a field trip or lead a Boy or Girl Scout Troop. She was a founding member of the Queen of Peace Campers and had many wonderful memories of campfires and potlucks over the years. She was very proud of her 5,000 hour pin from St. Marys Hospital Auxiliary where she worked in the Gift Shop and delivered mail and flowers. With Gordon she was an active bowler, golfer and dancer. Together they travelled around the world always meeting new friends along the way.
Marian was a creative craftsperson who was always working on a project. She knitted caps for newborns, prayer shawls for the sick and their home was filled with caned chairs and refinished antique furniture collected during trips across the United States. Each grandchild has a quilt and a Christmas stocking made by Grandma and her handmade afghans are a treasured wedding gift.
Always the competitor, when Marian’s oldest sister Helen turned 100, mom’s mantra became “I just need to beat Helen”. At 101, you did it mom! May you both rest in peace.
She is survived by her sons Bill (Mary) Stich East Windsor NJ, and Dave (Nancy) Stich Pleasant Prairie, daughter-in-law Judy Stich Lake Mills, and Mary (Jeff) Lewitzke Verona. She is further survived by 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 29th at 12:00PM at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 401 S. Owen Drive in Madison. A visitation will begin at 10:30am until the time of mass.
The family wishes to thank the staff at All Saints Assisted Living for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish Endowment Fund, or Agrace Hospice of Madison.
