Marie Fernandez

Marie E. Fernandez, age 89, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Hospice Care Center, Fitchburg.               She was born on August 29, 1920, in Malvern, PA, the daughter of James C. and Margarita ""Nellie"" (Moran) Pastorius.               Marie trained as a registered nurse at St. Luke's and Children's Medical Center, Philadelphia.   She served 2 1/2 years in the U.S. Army Nurses' Corps in Cherbourg and Marseilles, France during WWII.   After the war, she worked as a nurse in Philadelphia, New York, New Orleans, Flint MI, and Chicago.             Marie was married to Dr. Jose Fernandez on December 21, 1951, and lived for many years in Chicago Heights, IL.               She loved to read books, especially mysteries.               Marie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, and is survived by her 4 children: Joseph of Two Harbors MN, Marie K. of Long Beach WA, Donna of Madison, Susana of Brookings OR, as well as 3 sisters and a brother.               Funeral services will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Saturday, May 22, with visitation at 10:30AM, followed by mass at 11:30AM.   Burial will be at Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood IL.
