MADISON – Marie Huckaby Kampen passed away on March 24, 2021 at Oakwood Village University Woods. She was born on August 12, 1925, the daughter of William James and Ada Poland Huckaby of Bienville, Louisiana.
Marie graduated from Arcadia High School, Arcadia, LA and attended Meadows Draughon Business College, Shreveport, LA. On March 7, 1945, she was united in marriage to Irvin G. Kampen in Monroe, LA. After World War II ended, they moved to Middleton, WI, where they resided for over 20 years. Marie was active in many civic and church activities while living in Middleton and later Hendersonville, TN, and Sherman, TX.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Nifenecker of Amityville, NY, and Julie (John) Mitby of Scottsdale, AZ; five grandchildren, Eugene II (Laura), Andrew (Melanie), and Mitchell (MaryBeth) Nifenecker, Tana (Victor) Davila, and Jenna (Kevin) Mitby-Manning; nine great-grandchildren, Eugene III, Bryan, Amanda, Dillon, and Natalie Nifenecker, Ashley Bell, Sienna Davila, and Jace and Reese Mitby-Manning; and several great-great-grandchildren.
There will be no services or visitation. The family wishes to thank the staff of Tabor Oaks for the care they gave Marie, especially Wendy Zimmick, as well as Miles Pellatt-Whitaker and Marie Van Beck, all of whom made Marie’s life and death much easier for Marie and her family. Thanks also to the staff of Agrace, whose skill in end of life care is greatly appreciated. Memorials may be made to Oakwood Village University Woods .
